Day 30+ - Discovery Period
Discovery may begin 10 days after service of the complaint. Discovery is the process where each side to a lawsuit can ask different types of legal questions on the other parties. Discovery is done to learn the facts about the case. Discovery can include:
asking written questions about what happened
asking what basis the other side has for believing what they do
asking the other side to admit certain facts
deposing a party
deposing a witness
The process of discovery can take weeks or even months.
The discovery period will usually end 30 days before the date set for trial.
